In 1995 Markus Nobbe completed his first sprint triathlon in the neighboring district of Steinbeck. Until then he’d had little contact with sport at all.
When he changed jobs in 1994, he moved to Villingen/Schwenningen in the Black Forest. There, he decided to buy a mountain bike and was unaware that it would open the door to a true passion.
After 18 months Markus Nobbe changed jobs again and returned to Greven. Soon after that, he joined a sports and mountain bike group where people regularly participated in triathlon events. Inspired by them, he discovered that he loved exercising outdoors in the fresh air, out in nature and in the company of remarkable people.

In the first few years, Markus Nobbe completed sprint triathlons. But later on he changed to short and middle distances, and in 2000 he completed his first marathon in Hamburg.
When his fellow athletes told him they were taking part in the legendary triathlon event in Roth, Germany – the long-distance IRONMAN, he was curious and accompanied them. He stood at the side of the route as an observer, looking on in amazement as the cyclists, runners and swimmers passed him.
In 2001 he prepared to complete his first long distance. Clocking up a time of 11:30 hours, he was very satisfied and decided to take part in league events with his club team.
