Together with our age-old knowledge of herbs, these materials create the most powerful ingredients for the Sixtus products – the essence of the Alps.
The harsh natural environment of the mountains allows only the most robust and highly specialized plants to thrive. Knowledge of the efficacy of these alpine herbs goes back many centuries, and natural skin care is one of the areas where it has been put to good use. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation. And it ultimately formed the foundation on which Sixtus was built as a company. However, the Alps have much more to offer: valuable minerals washed out of the rocks, and pure glacier water from the depths of the ice. We develop these traditional formulations into contemporary alpine herb creams and emulsions, combining heritage with the latest scientific findings. For us, this translates into “health from the mountains”!
THE ALPINE HERB EXTRACT
Using medicinal plants to heal the skin is not a new invention. The plants range widely from dried pieces of flower and seeds to pieces of leaf and stem from various alpine herbs. Baths and poultices with alpine herbs were even used by Sebastian Kneipp to activate tissue metabolism, increase blood flow, and stimulate the body’s defenses. At Sixtus we go one step further to provide health from the mountains. We use a gentle process to extract the natural active ingredients from the herbs. This allows them to unfold their beneficial effect in the Sixtus products as alpine herb extract in concentrated form.
